MINNESOTA WILD NAMES PAUL CHARLES SCOUT

 

[May 12, 2000] -- SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild Executive Vice President/General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today the National Hockey League (NHL) club has named Paul Charles as an Amateur Scout. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Charles, 42 (7/8/57), will be responsible for scouting amateur talent for the Wild and help the club prepare for the annual NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the Wild, Charles served as the Head Scout for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) for the past five seasons. The Hitmen were 1999 WHL Champions and Memorial Cup finalists in 1999 and the number one ranked club in the Canadian Hockey League entering this year’s playoffs. Charles was also a Scout for the Swift Current Broncos (WHL) from 1986-95 helping the Broncos win the 1989 Memorial Cup and the 1993 WHL Championship. He was also a Scout for the Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) from 1984-86.

“Charles is one of the brightest hockey minds in amateur scouting and we are happy to add him to our hockey operations department,” said Risebrough.

A native of St. Albert, Alberta, Charles has also worked as a St. Albert firefighter for the last 14 years. He and his wife Carol Ann have a son, Brett and a daughter, Breann.

Charles will officially begin his new role with the Wild on August 1st.
