MINNESOTA WILD AND THE SALVATION ARMY KICK-OFF HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN

MINNESOTA WILD'S BOB NAEGELE, JR. AND BOB NAEGELE III WILL LIGHT OF WORLD'S LARGEST KETTLE ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19th IN SAINT PAUL'S KELLOGG PARK

[November 12, 1998] -- The National Hockey League's (NHL) Minnesota Wild in conjunction with The Salvation Army will kick-off The Salvation Army's annual Holiday Campaign in downtown Saint Paul's Kellogg Park, on Thursday, November 19th starting at 4:30 p.m. The 1998 Holiday Campaign will commence with The Salvation Army's Honorary Holiday Chairmen Bob Naegele, Jr. and Bob Naegele III of the Minnesota Wild lighting the world's largest Christmas kettle symbolizing The Salvation Army's commitment to serving the disadvantaged throughout Minnesota and across the nation. Other Minnesota Wild representatives will include Alana Blahoski, and Karyn Bye along with several special guests.

"We are proud to be working with the Minnesota Wild on this year's Holiday Campaign," said Major Norman S. Marshall, Salvation Army Area Coordinator. "This kettle is not only a dazzling sight for the city of Saint Paul, it is a holiday symbol of the hope and help we bring to people everyday of the year."

The Salvation Army's Holiday Campaign kick-off will also include the Minnesota Wild's Hockey Shoot-Out Game with proceeds benefiting The Salvation Army, the entertainment of The Salvation Army Brass Band and free cookies and hot chocolate for all spectators. This is the seventh year The Salvation Army will decorate the 56-foot tall kettle with over 20,000 red lights illuminating Kellogg Park.

The Twin Cities Salvation Army fundraising goal is $4,500,000 during the 1998 Holiday Campaign, this represents $1,500,000 for The Saint Paul Salvation Army and $3,000,00 for The Minneapolis Salvation Army. Money raised during the holiday season helps support a variety of on-going Salvation Army programs including Social Services, community centers, emergency disaster programs, recreation programs, educational programs and meal programs.

The Salvation Army has proudly served Minnesota since 1887.

The media is encouraged to arrive at 5:00 p.m. with the event concluding at 5:45 p.m. after the Ceremonial Kettle Lighting. The Hockey Shoot-Out Game is available weather permitting.
