WILD TO HOST U S WEST FACE OFF '98 NHL PRE-SEASON GAME ON WEDNESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 30 AT TARGET CENTER [July 8, 1998] -- The National Hockey League's (NHL) Minnesota Wild announced today the club will host the "U S West Face-Off '98", a pre-season game on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. from Target Center (600 First Ave. North) featuring the Phoenix Coyotes and the Dallas Stars. The pre-season game will include several players and front office members with strong affiliations across Minnesota's high school, collegiate and professional hockey levels. A few of these individuals are Dallas Stars General Manager Bob Gainey and forward Jamie Langenbrunner along with Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Bobby Smith. The Minnesota Wild,Star Tribune and KARE 11 present the "U S West Face-Off '98" a pre-season match-up featuring two of the top Western Conference teams and rivals. The Phoenix Coyotes finished sixth in the Western Conference last season and are led by NHL stars Keith Tkachuk and Jeremy Roenick. The Dallas Stars finished first in the Western Conference last season and were winners of the Presidents Trophy for the highest regular season winning percentage in the NHL. The Stars are highlighted by NHL standouts Mike Modano, Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk and recent free-agent signee and former University of Minnesota-Duluth star Brett Hull. "The Minnesota Wild are honored to host two of the National Hockey League's top teams," said Jac Sperling, CEO of the Minnesota Wild. "The Stars and Coyotes are both great teams that are sure to provide an exciting game. The best part is Minnesota hockey fans who thought they would have to wait two years for NHL action to return to Minnesota, now only have to wait two short months." The Minnesota Wild also announced an affordable, four-tiered ticket pricing plan for the pre-season game. Minnesota Wild season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase tickets at a reduced rate through July 31st. Season ticket reservation holders will receive via mail a special order form for purchasing tickets or they can call the Minnesota Wild directly at (612) 333-PUCK to order tickets for the September 30th game. A portion of the net proceeds from the game will be donated by the Minnesota Wild and U S West to Minnesota youth hockey programs.
