The pre-season game will include several players and front office members with strong affiliations across Minnesota's high school, collegiate and professional hockey levels. A few of these individuals are Dallas Stars General Manager Bob Gainey and forward Jamie Langenbrunner along with Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Bobby Smith.

The Minnesota Wild,Star Tribune and KARE 11 present the "U S West Face-Off '98" a pre-season match-up featuring two of the top Western Conference teams and rivals. The Phoenix Coyotes finished sixth in the Western Conference last season and are led by NHL stars Keith Tkachuk and Jeremy Roenick. The Dallas Stars finished first in the Western Conference last season and were winners of the Presidents Trophy for the highest regular season winning percentage in the NHL. The Stars are highlighted by NHL standouts Mike Modano, Ed Belfour, Joe Nieuwendyk and recent free-agent signee and former University of Minnesota-Duluth star Brett Hull.
